Can you DIGG it?
Sunday, January 07, 2007

Every day tt seems like a new site, listing or directory pops up onto our radar that we “HAVE” to have Manic Mommies listed, rated and reviewed. There is Apple iTunes, Yahoo! Podcasts, Podcast Pickle, Podcast Alley and PodShow.

You need to be mentioned by the sites that dictate "coolness" to the masses – Cool Mom Picks, Daily Candy and Club Mom.

I've been told we also need to increase the number of people who link to us, thus improving our rankings in all the search engines and Technorati - Technorati is fun. I like to see the people who talk about us in their blogs. Just another level of validation!

We are supposed to ask our listeners to add themselves to our MySpace page (not sure why), check out our our Flickr site (which we never update), and mark our Frappr map (which we forget about). Maybe someday we will be added to Wikipedia for our contribution to perserving the sanity of thousands of working parents - although I'm not sure we'd be up to their standards. Several of our podcasting friends have been removed from the site recently.

The newest of these voting/review sites (at least for podcasting) is digg.com.

According to the web site:
"Digg is a user driven social content website. Ok, so what the heck does that mean? Well, everything on Digg is submitted by our community (that would be you). After you submit content, other people read your submission and Digg what they like best. If your story rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of visitors to see.

What can you do as a Digg user? Lots. Every person can digg (help promote), bury (help remove spam), and comment on stories... you can even Digg and bury comments you like or dislike. Digg also allows you to track your friends' activity throughout the site — want to share a video or news story with a friend? Digg it!"

The folks at Digg just added Podcasts to their site. Visitors can "dig" a podcast (Manic Mommies) and/or a specific episode (MM 41: Can we get the X back in Sex?)

I'm not sure who has time to go to all of these sites to vote, dig, review... whatever. Some of the sites require just one vote or comment. Others, like Podcast Alley, actually have a list of top sites based on monthly voting. Monthly? Are they crazy? And who is looking at ALL these pages?

At this point, I still think a review on Apple iTunes does the most to help other parents find Manic Mommies. Or, just tell a friend. They, like me, probably don't have time to check out all the other sites anyway!
