Post-Holiday Hangover
Monday, November 26, 2007

It is 8:30 am on Monday morning and I should be in the office. I should be pouring my coffee, checking my voice and e-mail (of which I hope there aren’t too many), and planning for the week ahead.

Instead, I am sitting in my kitchen waiting for my 2 year old to recover from a nasty post-Thanksgiving hangover.

The rest of the family has already moved on with their days. My son made it on the bus with minimal complaints – actually, I should give him more credit. He got up with no complaints and was ready for the bus with a full 5-minutes to spare (minus the library book which may or may not have already been returned to school). My husband has hit the road, and I’m…. watching Good Morning America.

Did you know over 2,000 high schools will be putting on performances of “High School Musical” this year? Me neither.

I don’t know if Sophie is suffering from too much turkey, too little sleep, too much traveling or just a killer combination of everything that makes Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving. I feel her pain. I was suffering from my own holiday hangover yesterday – although mine was self-inflicted through a combination of too many beers, a shot of something unidentifiable, and too little sleep. There is nothing worse then driving 4.5 hours with a migraine, upset stomach and two kids who require at least minimal attention.

So I’m giving Sophie some extra time to recover. And taking a few minutes for myself – it is “Cyber Monday” after all.
